Des Moines Community Colleges officers will inquire the school board Tuesday for added money to deal with the costs for its new virtual elementary school curriculum a better selection of students enrolled.
The Des Moines school district contracted with Edgenuity, an online curriculum firm, for its kindergarten through fifth-quality pupils in August when situations of COVID-19 commenced to increase and households commenced asking for options to in-individual college.
At the time, the board approved spending $495,000 of federal COVID-19 money on the software. The deal lined 300 learners. Officials are now asking to invest an additional $290,000 — for a whole of $785,000 — to protect a overall of 550 students.
There are 517 learners participating in the self-led understanding application, a fraction of the approximated 13,000 elementary college pupils in the district.
Edgenuity gives certified Iowa lecturers to operate with learners. The district also delivers an on-line Virtual Academy for center and superior university college students.
“If the COVID problem normally takes a switch for the even worse and there is bigger demand for digital finding out we will regulate appropriately,” explained Phil Roeder, district spokesperson.
The board also is scheduled to hear an update on COVID in the colleges through the exact conference. As of Thursday, 149 people in the district have examined good for COVID — together with 39 elementary college students.
