Italian exchange student enjoys experience of living in Altavista | Community Cares

The Altavista community experienced the benefit of 3 trade college students dwelling and researching in the local community for the 2021-22 academic yr. One particular of them, Erika Buzzini, hails from Pozzuolo Martesana, a town in close proximity to Milan in northern Italy. She shared her knowledge and impressions of her time at Altavista High School with the Altavista Journal.

Buzzini arrived in the United States on August 1 past summer season and was enrolled as a senior at AHS. She remarked that the faculty is very distinct from large university in Italy.

“It’s good below. I can look at them. Below the teachers are extremely great, and we can be mates with them. I take pleasure in the organized faculty sports activities and actions. I like it simply because I can make more friends and commit time executing what I like.”

The 17-yr-previous performed on the varsity volleyball and tennis teams in Colonel State and enjoyed both of those. She was new to the two athletics. “There are no athletics at colleges in Italy,” she pointed out. She was much better in tennis, so she liked it greater, she observed.

Her preferred class at AHS was chemistry.

As for the neighborhood of Altavista, she commented, “it’s a very wonderful location. The persons are sort and ask me questions” about her property region. “I definitely like it when folks are curious about other cultures. It tends to make me really feel significant.”

Buzzini, alongside with quite a few of the the latest trade learners in Altavista, lived with the Hicks Spouse and children – Andrew, Sheryl, and Erin. “They are pretty great persons, frequently amusing and making jokes. At the beginning they were being being familiar with that I wasn’t superior at the language. They manufactured me really comfortable. I like them a ton.”

When asked what she would miss the most when she goes back home, Buzzini pointed to the lifestyle in this article. In Italy immediately after college she scientific tests five to six hrs every single working day. “Here, you don’t learn as a great deal in university, but pupils can have hobbies, be a part of golf equipment, and do sports activities. Teachers care and want college students to do these other factors.”

She also misses the food.

One of her good memories of her time right here was heading to New York Metropolis. “I’ve wished to go there since the age of 10. Ahead of coming here, if someone talked about the U.S., the initial factor I would believe of was New York Metropolis.”

Other reminiscences stand out. “Other than that, winning my to start with tennis match, which was one of my initially situations enjoying.” She also has excellent recollections of hanging out with buddies and riding around and singing a whole lot.

She bought a prom dress. “I enjoy the gown that I bought. It’s blue and pretty fairly. It made me truly feel like a princess,” she associated.
